The Angel Island to Gold Mountain series uses organic materials
that I collected as I led a tour for the California Historical Society.
The two day tour followed the path of 19th century Chinese pioneers through California's Central Valley.
Elements of teas, seaweed, rust, clay, and ashes serve as symbolic metaphors
of their journey. Replicas of each piece were packaged and ceremoniously burned
as "dzidzat" at various historical Chinese temple furneraries.
