The Angel Island to Gold Mountain series uses organic materials that I collected as I led a tour for the California Historical Society. The two day tour followed the path of 19th century Chinese pioneers through California's Central Valley. Elements of teas, seaweed, rust, clay, and ashes serve as symbolic metaphors of their journey. Replicas of each piece were packaged and ceremoniously burned as "dzidzat" at various historical Chinese temple furneraries.
Their sizes are approximately 12" H X 12" W. For more detail click on each image.
